Long-COVID syndrome is a condition that will affect a large proportion of those who survived a COVID-19 infection. According to a recent meta-analysis, it is associated predominantly with poor quality of life, persistent symptoms including fatigue, dyspnea, anosmia, sleep disturbances, and mental health problems.
At present, we are still struggling to understand the exact causes and mechanisms of this condition. Therefore, its optimal treatment is as yet uncertain. Governments around the world have therefore made sizable research funds available to make progress in this area, and research in this area is frantically active.
Regardless of the evidence, practitioners and entrepreneurs of so-called alternative medicine (SCAM) are gearing up to jump on this bandwagon by declaring that their offerings are a solution to this growing problem. Indeed, many of them have already done so. Here are just three sites that I found today which are promoting homeopathy for long COVID:

One hardly needs to mention that homeopathy is not supported by sound evidence in the management of long-Covid (or any other condition for that matter). Neither does one need to stress that homeopaths are just one example, and virtually all other SCAM providers are promoting their services in the absence of evidence.
A recent review of the literature stated this:
Patients with long COVID commonly refer to taking ‘the stack’ or ‘the supplement stack’, which includes high-dose vitamin C and D, niacin (nicotinic acid), quercetin, zinc, selenium, and sometimes also magnesium. Further research is needed to confirm or refute the impact of supplements in long COVID. Examples of noteworthy interactions with supplements include: niacin causing an increased risk of bleeding events when combined with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, increased risk of rhabdomyolysis together with statins, and quercetin causing inhibition and induction of various human cytochrome P450 enzymes.
Why then are SCAM providers promoting SCAM for long-COVID?
This is a daft question if there ever was one.
It seems obvious they do it because:
- they are believers who don’t care about evidence,
- they are in it for the money,
- or both.
Some time ago, this homeopath already indicated, that SCAM providers should see COVID as an opportunity: For homeopathy, shunned during its 200 years of existence by conventional medicine, this outbreak is a key opportunity to show potentially the contribution it can make in treating COVID-19 patients. We should perhaps not hold our breath to see the emergence of convincing evidence, but we should be prepared to warn the public of getting exploited by charlatans who disregard both ethics and evidence.

As mentioned several times in your blog, we do not have any better evidence than university medicine (or vice versa), but we at least offer patients help where conventional medicine (SCSM=so called scientific medicin) completely breaks the sails and neither in prophylaxis nor in the pre-acute stage or in the follow-up treatment has something to offer .
Or are you suggesting that consistent non-treatment is better than trying?
In this context, your list of side effects of SCAM drugs only looks ridiculous in view of the possible side effects of SCSM …
And with your limited perspective you probably cannot imagine that there could be other impulses for action beyond “they are in it for the money”: concern and compassion for your own patients.

Your notion that real doctors do nothing is merely the fantasy of homeopaths.

I had assessed you with more integrity, but you obviously find it difficult in your conventional-medical-neglect to admit that there are SCAM therapists with a conscience and sovereignty to adhere to there limits. It was precisely the constant questioning of the usefulness and success of any therapeutic application from SCSM during my studies and in the hospital that brought me to the realization of where I am now.

So CM should have done something, anything, just to make itself feel useful? You really need to learn the difference between being busy and being productive.
Galenic Medicine spent 2000 years “doing something”; and how many of their patients did their “something” heal, and how many did it kill? (You can even start answering that one yourself: homeopathy, which is the very definition of appearing to do something while doing nothing, proved significantly superior to the conventional care of the day: bloodletting and purging. It’s not our fault Hahnemann misinterpreted his results.)
Doing something that is overwhelmingly harmful is far worse than doing nothing at all. Voltaire declared then that “The art of medicine consists of amusing the patient while nature cures the disease.” Though what he should have said was “The art of medicine should consist of distracting the physician so he doesn’t kill the patient too.” Because the physicians of Voltaire’s day were fools. Respected, wealthy, and all too dangerous fools. 200 years of grindingly hard unforgiving learning (including learning how to say “I am wrong”) have since gone a long way to moderating the fools, though as we see here they are are still around.
By the way, your declaration that modern medics were “helpless” and “doing nothing” as COVID ran rampant is shockingly offensive. They did all they could while constantly learning from both experience and research how to combat this brand new disease effectively. And over time, they got very good at it too; which is one of the reasons the case to death ratio is now greatly improved. After two years in that war zone, all those medics deserve far better than to be wiped with your feces by you. For someone who tells us he has a conscience, you aren’t doing a good job of using it. And no, vaccines do not cause long-term side effects, and homeopathy cannot help people overcome these fictitious side effects. And of course you can’t actually help people with long-Covid either, other than listen to their plight and feign compassion, while relieving them of their money. You are an ignorant person if you really believe this. Those people are NOT doctors. They are dangerous quacks – because they spread lies and misinformation, NOT ‘inconvenient truths’ as you claim. Their claims are generally unproven, highly misleading and sometimes outright lies and fabrications, bordering on the criminal.
E.g. they claim that Covid-vaccinations have killed 45,000 people in the US alone, and they say that they base this on VAERS reports (VAERS is the US version of the German Paul Ehrlich Institute). This IS A LIE.
They also claim that young people should shun Covid-19 vaccination because this would present an increased risk of myocarditis, and that for these age groups, the risks of vaccination are significantly greater than the risks associated with Covid-19. This IS ALSO A LIE:

Steve Kirsch is an entrepreneur who suffers from the delusion that he is now also an epidemiologist, immunologist, virologist and knowledgeable scientist – which makes him a patent idiot.
No, there is no evidence AT ALL that Covid-19 vaccines cause significantly more and more serious side effects than generally reported. In fact, Dutch allergy and immunology experts found that the vast majority of reported allergic reactions following the first vaccination were not caused by allergy at all, but by stress and anxiety. Which is not all that strange, because both allergies and anxiety can cause an increased heart rate, a globus sensation (lump in the throat), flushed skin and a general ‘itchiness’.
People who experienced these symptoms after their first vaccination were routinely advised not to take a second vaccination, just to be on the safe side. However, after several thousand of these people voluntarily applied for a second vaccination anyway, it turned out that the vast majority were not allergic after all. This was established using standard allergy tests and by subsequent vaccination.
So it would appear that the number of side effects is actually overestimated rather than underestimated.
Steve Kirsch has been comprehensively debunked.
Seriously, anyone can hypothesize a bunch of numbers. What matters is whether you actually verify them against observed reality before you pronounce your conclusion.
Kirsch didn’t. He invented numbers which said exactly what he wanted them to say, then shouted them directly to the world. Thereby forcing others to check his homework for him. And when they found nothing but fabulist fever dream in the place where high evidence should have been, they were rightly pissed in calling him out for it.

my experience with most pro-SCAM blogs is that they do not even post my comments. thus, a long time ago, I stopped commenting there.
I think there’s a lot of anecdotal evidence that you are not alone.
