Four speakers have been announced for next year’s conference (25-26 April 2020) of the UK ‘Society of Homeopaths’ (SoH). It has the theme ‘All About Men’ (which is surprising considering the majority of homeopathy fans are women). The meeting will aim to provide a better understanding of men’s lives and illnesses in order for practitioners to help them seek homeopathic treatments with confidence.

One of the 4 speakers will be California-based chiropractor, homeopath and health coach Joel Kriesberg. The SoH’s announcement proudly states that “Joel Kreisberg is going to bring the very interesting tool, the Enneagram, which was originally devised by the famous philosopher, George Gurdjieff. This is the first time Joel has lectured in the UK and he is well respected and highly thought of by the likes of Karen Allen and Dana Ullman.”

(A note to the SoH: Gurdjieff did not devise the Enneagram, he popularised it; perhaps you want to correct this statement?)

But, what is the ENNEAGRAM?

According to Wikipedia, the Enneagram (from the Greek words ἐννέα [ennéa, meaning “nine”] and γράμμα [grámma, meaning something “written” or “drawn”[1]]), is a model of the human psyche which is principally understood and taught as a typology of nine interconnected personality types. Although the origins and history of many of the ideas and theories associated with the Enneagram of Personality are a matter of dispute, contemporary Enneagram claims are principally derived from the teachings of Oscar Ichazo and Claudio Naranjo. Naranjo’s theories were partly influenced by some earlier teachings of George Gurdjieff. As a typology the Enneagram defines nine personality types (sometimes called “enneatypes”), which are represented by the points of a geometric figure called an enneagram,[2] which indicate connections between the types. There are different schools of thought among Enneagram teachers, therefore their ideas are not always in agreement.

The Enneagram of Personality has been widely promoted in both business management and spirituality contexts through seminars, conferences, books, magazines, and DVDs.[3][4] In business contexts it is generally used as a typology to gain insights into workplace interpersonal-dynamics; in spirituality it is more commonly presented as a path to higher states of being, essence, and enlightenment. Both contexts say it can aid in self-awareness, self-understanding and self-development.[3]

__________________________________________________________

In a nutshell, the Enneagram is an obsolete personality test that has never been properly validated and is today used mostly by quacks and other dubious characters and institutions. Yet, this is what Kriesberg has to say on his website about the use of the Enneagram in homeopathy:

The Enneagram’s application to homeopathy and health coaching makes a dramatic difference as it allows practitioner to identify the client’s learning style quickly. As we engage the Enneagram, we are able to provide specific developmental paths and activities based on their Enneagram style. Healing is faster, deeper, and has longer-lasting results.

To teach all this, Kriesberg is offering classes that are grounded in Tinus Smits’ method for studying universal healing with homeopathy, in which direct experience of the Enneagram types is enhanced by the use of homeopathic remedies.

Tinus Smits! … where have I heard this name before?

Ah yes, this is the homeopath who invented CEASE!

Smits became convinced that autism is caused by a child’s exposure to an accumulation of toxic substances and published several books about his theory. In his experience (as far as I can see, Smits never published a single scientific paper in the peer-reviewed literature) autism is caused by an accumulation of different toxins. About 70% is due to vaccines, 25% to toxic medication and other toxic substances, 5% to some diseases. According to the ‘like cures like’ principle of homeopathy, Smits claimed that autism must be cured by applying homeopathic doses of the substances which caused autism. Step by step all assumed causative factors (vaccines, regular medication, environmental toxic exposures, effects of illness, etc.) are detoxified with the homeopathically prepared substances that has been administered prior to the onset of autism. Smits and his followers believe that this procedure clears out the energetic field of the patient from the imprint of toxic substances or diseases.

I herewith congratulate the SoH on their forthcoming conference – an event that must not be missed! They have managed to pack an unprecedented amount of unethical nonsense into just one lecture!

  • A lot of research now is going into the connection between dysbiosis and autism. Remember the supposedly discredited Dr Wakefield pointed out a possible connection between the MMR vaccine, dysbiosis and autism. Some vaccines still contain mercury (multi-dose influenza) and almost all contain the adjuvants aluminum, formaldehyde and other toxins which are injected (as opposed to ingested) making them problematic.

Tools like the enneagram are not the destination; they are signposts which may or may not be helpful. Any homeopath has to confirm their remedy selection by looking at the materia medica for the remedy.

    • “the supposedly discredited Dr Wakefield”
      YOU ARE A HOOT!
is there anyone on the planet who takes you seriously, Roger?

    • A lot of research now is going into the connection between dysbiosis and autism.

What counts as a “lot” in your world?

Remember the supposedly discredited Dr Wakefield

“Supposedly discredited”? You’re not sure if he was actually discredited? It doesn’t take much digging to find out that nugget of information. I could do the search for you, but those that still claim his innocence rarely trust the very clear evidence provided by those that accept it. So, yeah, take the 15 seconds to look that up.

pointed out a possible connection between the MMR vaccine, dysbiosis and autism.

Well… His research was discredited, but that’s no reason to not look into more of the same. The linked study doesn’t look at this though.

As mentioned, the linked study doesn’t look at anything you just mentioned. So the problematic thing here appears to be your reading comprehension.

Well, in fairness the Ennaegram does have issues with it being testable so it’s borderline pseudoscientific as I understand it. From that point of view though, I can understand why another well established pseudoscience like homeopathy would latch on to it.

    • A lot of research now is going into the connection between dysbiosis and autism.

Translated: the SCAM world jumped en masse on the gut microbiome & food bandwagon because it strongly appeals to their preference for all things ‘natural’ and ‘holistic’.

Remember the supposedly discredited Dr Wakefield…

As of May 2010, that is Mr., Wakefield. The man no longer enjoys the privilege of being called a doctor.

… pointed out a possible connection between the MMR vaccine, dysbiosis and autism.

And this observation was later found to be fraudulent. When original medical records and histopathological findings from the children he examined were dug up, it turned out that most children had a completely normal gut microbiome, whereas Wakefield claimed that these children all had some sort of aspecific colitis. Some vaccines still contain mercury…

Which has been found to be completely harmless. In 2001, the mercury-based preservative (thimerosal) used up until then was banned from all paediatric vaccines in the US. From that year onward, it became very clear what effects this mercury had on children all those years: none whatsoever. Not a single condition exhibited even the slightest change in incidence, least of all autism. Thimerosal was and is completely safe in the dosage used in vaccines.
And oh, lots of other countries never used thimerosal at all in their vaccines, yet have similar or sometimes even higher rates of autism.

…and almost all contain the adjuvants aluminum, …

The aluminium in vaccines is harmless. It is an almost insoluble compound (aluminium hydroxyde or aluminium phosphate) that remains for the most part at the injection site, from where it slowly dissipates, to be excreted. Flarend et al. quantified this process in their research. Conclusion: the injected aluminium compound doesn’t end up in the brain in any significant amounts.

      … formaldehyde …

You really don’t know anything about medicine in general and vaccines in particular, now do you? Each and every cell in our body produces formaldehyde as part of DNA synthesis. IIRC, even a baby produces several milligrams of formaldehyde every single day – several orders of magnitude more than the maximum of 50 micrograms found in a vaccine. And oh, do you give your infant fruit on a daily basis? One juicy pear may contain over 5 milligrams of formaldehyde. That is the equivalent of 100 vaccinations – and no, it doesn’t make any difference if formaldehyde is ingested or injected. It is highly water-soluble and disperses throughout the body in mere minutes either way.

      … and other toxins …

Ah, ‘other toxins’. And which ones would that be? No, no need to answer. You are just brainlessly parroting the words of antivaccine idiots. Please stop that.

In case you didn’t know already: as far as we know, autism is congenital. It appears to be linked to the way the brain is wired, something that happens before birth. And in at least half of all cases, hereditary factors seem to be involved. Vaccines or ‘toxins’ have nothing to do with autism. Deficiencies or aberrations in the gut microbiome may be a comorbidity to autism, but there is again no known causal connection to either vaccines or toxins.

What all this has to to with enneagrams and homeopathy is not clear, apart from the fact that it is all nonsense.

      • RichardR

You are more than free to continue injecting these toxins into your system as much as you like. In fact, you can have my portions.
I don’t need any of them.

        • Aww … I actually feel sorry for you, seeing ‘toxins’ everywhere, and feeling the urge to do something about those imaginary toxins(*) by torturing yourself… It reminds me of those religious fanatics who see the devil everywhere, and think that they can somehow improve matters by depriving themselves of anything that makes life pleasant.
Then again, you may simply be trolling. I guess we’ll never know.

*: Here are some real toxins to worry about:
          https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diphtheria_toxin
          https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pertussis_toxin
          https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tetanospasmin

          • Aww… I feel sorry for your blind fanatical acceptance that [All ] vaccines are safe and effective [for everyone all the time]. Someday you will wake up and realize that govts that can lie about everything else can just as easily like about medicine. We dont see toxins *everywhere* but we do see them when they are listed on the ingredients label. Maybe you cant read?

          • These diseases were dramatically on the wane before the vaccines were introduced due to diet and hygiene. You and the establishment medicos see the devil in *GERMS* (Oh, the horror) since you apparently dont trust or dont make any money trusting the human immune system. So you torture everyone else by trying to make vaccines mandatory forcing everyone to join your Herd of sheep. Why dont you worry about the devils you want to worry about and let us worry about what we want to worry about. Lets call a truce. Call off your dogs.

          • quote: “It’s true that infectious disease mortality is much lower today than in the past, but as a summary of vital statistics published in Pediatrics in 2000 observed, “nearly 90% of the decline in infectious disease mortality among US children occurred before 1940, when few antibiotics or vaccines were available.” These major declines were attributable to an increasing standard of living, including improved socioeconomic conditions, water treatment, a more educated populace, and better hygienic practices. As the authors reiterated, “vaccination does not account for the impressive declines in mortality” that occurred during the twentieth century.[68]”

So you can stop fearing your devils and their “real” toxins and stop worshiping at the altar of vaccinology.

          • Roger,
Thank you for revealing that you deem your personal belief in anti-vaccine conspiracy nonsense more important than the lives and well-being of people in general and children in particular(*) – although this comes as no surprise, given your history of trolling on behalf of SCAM.

I sincerely hope that you do not treat or otherwise advise people with health problems, and that people do not take anything you say seriously – otherwise, chances are that sooner or later, you WILL cause harm to someone.

*: E.g. HPV vaccination has the potential to prevent over 3,000 cases of cervical cancer each year in the UK alone, saving the lives of some 700 women who would otherwise die, and preventing often severe, permanent damage in those who survive.
But it would appear that you’d rather see these women getting cancer and die instead of getting vaccinated.

          • Looks like you’ve been reading Humphries’ & Bystrianyk’s book of antivaccine conspiracy nonsense, Roger. That is not at all healthy for those who have an aversion to medical science. Reading the rubbish these lunatics wrote will only poison your already pestered mind. Here’s one antidote of many to their illusions.

      • quote: “The IOM highlighted the absence of studies comparing rates of chronic nervous system dysfunction between children who received the vaccine and children who didn’t. It also acknowledged the plausibility that DTP “might cause serious acute neurological illness and subsequent chronic dysfunction in children”, or it “might trigger (and thereby be an immediate or proximate cause) an acute neurologic illness and subsequent chronic dysfunction in children with underlying brain or metabolic abnormalities.” That is, the IOM acknowledged that it was possible that the DTP can cause permanent harm to the nervous system in genetically susceptible children.”

“The IOM’s conclusion was that “the evidence is insufficient to indicate whether or not DPT increases the overall risk in children of chronic nervous system dysfunction.” However, “the balance of evidence is consistent with a causal relation between DPT” and permanent injury to the nervous system.[52]”

Ah, wonderful, one scientifically incompetent conspiracy loon quoting another scientifically incompetent conspiracy loon misquoting old scientific research in order to ‘prove’ their nonsense. As if we haven’t seen that before…

  • Kriesberg is the most high profile speaker but some of the others are equally strange in their own way.

Nikunj Trivedi is a homeopath originally from India. He is not registered with the General Medical Council but is know to call himseld Dr in various places. Trivedi’s schtick is using conventional medical tests. Certain tests can only be ordered by doctors and I do hope that he isn’t ordering any of them. Likewise, I do hope that he doesn’t have any diagnostic equipment that should not be used by unqualified lay persons. Trivedi isn’t qualified to interpret test results either. He is quite keen on promoting the use of medical tests to other homeopaths but they seem less than keen. He has tried to give talks in the UK but at least one was cancelled due to lack of interest.

Yubraj Sharma is actually a GMC registered doctor. He also runs the School of Shamanic Homoeopathy (from his house). It’s website is dead so it’s not clear if it is still going. What shamanic homeopathy is isn’t exactly clear. Apparently, he is quite handsome if you are a female homeopathy student. Sharma is also the author of such gems as “Spiritual Bioenergetics of Homoeopathic Materia Medica” and “Homoeopathy of the Solar System: Mercury”. Sharma is anti vaccination.

Bill Rumble teaches at various homeopathy “colleges” as well as being involved in the foundin of them. He tells students to start with “Gurter” who was apparently a contemporary of Hahnemann. Rumble has been a volunteer for Ghana Homeopathy Project.
